Project Genesis focuses on the rebirth of not only myself but my interests outside of Graphic Design: World-building & reading.
How can an immersive story come to life through fantastical worldbuilding?
Project Genesis explores three-dimensional & game design to produce conceptual worlds that challenge and explore the mythologies within Earth’s history. The stories developed in Project Genesis explore the human imagination through speculative fiction, possible futures and pasts to form an atlas that stretches beyond time and history. Genesis worlds have been imagined using the genuine tales and myths that our ancestors have invented to understand our natural world and the progression of geography, mythology and etymology. Each world breathes life into the real and the imagined using a form of speculative narratives and developments to allow the story to flourish.
Speculative fiction within Genesis worlds is grounded within the natural world and traditional knowledge while simultaneously breaking down the vernacular within worldbuilding and game design. Radical changes have resulted in the definition of “worldbuilding” becoming amorphous with every generation. Project Genesis, in turn, pursues that natural connection between stories and how they connect us to a place. This exploration has resulted in a playful and immersive response that has spawned the creation of wondrous dimensions in which the human imagination can run free. The research has become a conduit into worldbuilding as a mode and creative practice that explores the possibility of thematic experiences within the boundaries of geography, mythology and etymology in a fictional game context.

The Handwritten Journey
Project Novus became the foundation for Genesis Studios, the fictional game development company created within Project Genesis.
Project Novus started out as a workshop, led by me, to other Graphic Design students within the VCUarts Qatar community.
I gave them a speculative fiction theme (Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Horror, etc etc) and then they were split up into 3 sub-categories - Geography, Population and History. Based on the groups they were in, they developed visual projects based on maps, flags and symbols.
Following the stories they created, I visualised them further into conceptual games that would get published under Archive17!
Archive17:
The Anthology series twists traditional speculative fiction topics and provides a curated experience constructed around the darker side of the human imagination. Explore worlds of stunning features, haunting music and unique gameplay that delivers an experience like no other.
Genesis Studios:
Genesis prides itself on creating open-world generative environments and narratives that explore darker themes while actively performing the best gaming experiences in the world. Genesis brings forth a darker niche approach to open-world, generative world-building scenarios that involve the audience within the context of the world.
Conquest of the Macabre
Travelling back to a time where Myths and prophecies are true. Demons, dragons and humans roam the land in search of the one that could destroy or bring peace to their life.
Join the epic adventure in discovering the high and low of the lands, weather-controlling dragons and bands of demonic rebels.
Server26
Which side are you on?
What do you care about most? Your freedom or conformity?
Play along in a world where your choice could very well be your last. Explore the cyber pandemic city in the year 2026, where a digital virus has taken over and has created killers like no other.
The Dying Realms
You are one of the last pureblood humans left in a world filled with demon monarchs, witches and creatures like no other. How are you going to destroy the monarch that started it all?
Are you also going to fall into the dark power that took over the world you are trying to explore?
Novem
A realm unseen.
Corruption plagues the mortal world. Chaos and destruction reign free, caused by a rampant deity hell-bent on gaining control. After years in hiding, the daughter of a lone blacksmith emerges to fulfil a prophecy bigger than her.
How far must she venture into the darkness to bring salvation?
Invicta
Latin: Unconquered
Invicta was created and developed while running parallel with the promotional material for Genesis/Archive17 games.
The typeface is a futuristic and wide typeface that is inspired by the science fiction speculative fiction genre, particularly on the machine heavy side.
Invicta utilising the same 45 & 90-degree angle to stay consistent with the letterforms.
26 LATIN CHARACTERS
26 UPPERCASE
The letterforms were inspired by morse code with the fluidity of waves and sea creatures taken into account. This is where the constant circle along with the same structured curves come from and remains consistent throughout the type. The typeface was also inspired by Arabic letterforms but the Japanese structure while representing the flowy-ness and flow of the ocean. Even though the final look has a more refined digital feel, I feel as if the curves are a strong contrast to the edges of Invicta. This is a nice play on the narrative that the world Server26 represents as well: Invicta vs Black Whale Code.
Conquest of the Macabre had a very dark twist to it, but I decided to bring my own mythology and story into the world so that it was relevant to the three-dimensional renderings of the world.
Project Genesis Blueprint
Architectural Drawing and Research done by Hannah Fakhri.
The initial building blocks for “Project Genesis” - the starting point for a Senior World Building Thesis.
The blueprint showcases the initial findings and research in relation to the start of my BFA ‘22 Thesis topic. The Liver Building in Liverpool, UK was used as the foundation and base to explore my interest in architecture and the first story into mythology. The story of the liver birds of Liverpool was my first introduction to mythology as a child, and now I am expanding upon that within my thesis.
This blueprint then became the foundation for the Project Genesis Lexicon.
Project Genesis Lexicon
Book design designed by Hannah Fakhri
Gloss lamination hardcover with 130gsm Silk Paper.
The Lexicon consists of over 50 vocabulary words that relate, explore and describe my BFA Thesis topic.
While pursuing the Lexicon, I further explored and research more in-depth topics such as world-building, mythology and speculative fiction. Literature reviews are referenced and credited throughout the book.
Along with that relevant conceptual artists have been credited for the contextual and artistic analysis of the Lexicon, and how the development of the popular book and gaming worlds could benefit my own BFA Thesis.
